Lea Wagner was most recently at the Winter Olympics. It is also planned for the World Cup. However, she will soon be taking a break – for a happy reason.

ARD presenter Lea Wagner is expecting offspring at the end of the summer. “This year is a very special one for me,” she told the German Press Agency. “First the many sporting highlights that I was able to be a part of and am still able to be a part of – and then a private highlight awaits us in the summer after the World Cup. We are really looking forward to the addition of the family,” said Wagner.

The sports journalist was happy “that there are already many women within ARD who show how well our job and family can be combined.” ARD sports coordinator Axel Balkausky assured that Wagner would receive the necessary support. “The plan is for her to be available to us – as long as she is well and comfortable – until the summer,” explained Balkausky.

Wagner is also scheduled for the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada from June 11th to July 19th. The ARD will discuss the personnel planning for her break in good time as part of the ARD sports director meeting, as Balkausky confirmed.

Wagner is the daughter of football coach David Wagner, who once coached FC Schalke in the Bundesliga. The 31-year-old is part of the “Sportschau” moderation team. Most recently, she was used to broadcast ski jumping at international football games and the Winter Olympics.
