Unplug
Tina points out that early March is often a time when these types of cancellations are announced. “Whether the plug will be pulled? It is true that with Humberto Tan and his late-night show and also last year with that other talk show that we knew under the name Renze, Beau and Humberto, it became known at the beginning of March that the plug would be pulled.”
She continues in her podcast Tina’s TV Update: “That has to do with the fact that the team that is behind it then has enough time to find another job and also to simply wind down. Then they also have enough time to prepare for the autumn.”
After the summer
RTL will not do much in the summer in terms of talk shows because of the Football World Cup, according to Tina. “The talk show will only start again after the World Cup. In that sense, it must be known now if it will stop after the summer.”
She continues: “I think that chance could be possible. I find it very difficult. I really have to speculate, because of course I really don’t know, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it soon becomes known that the plug will be pulled and that we will see something different after the summer.”
Contract
The contract with RTL Tonight producer EndemolShine runs until the end of December, Tina says. “So they can say: ‘We are going to serve out the contract until the end of the year’, but of course it costs a lot of money to have such a show. On the other hand, a good alternative must also be found.”
About 300,000 people watch RTL Tonight. “But yesterday it had a 20 percent market share in the target group, so yes, I think the RTL management is very busy considering: what are we going to do now?”
Right Renze?
RTL has a golden alternative: Renze Klamer. “Yes, then it is of course logical that they put Renze there with his own program and that after the summer we see Renze in a talk show. To be honest, I might do that if I were RTL. A new fresh start. Renze has not been on television for a long time.”
“He is still under contract and gets paid. There is just no job. Now the question is: what is he going to do? I don’t think so much. There is not that much for him. (…) Renze is at home and I think he does chairmanships and things like that. I think it is logical that we will soon hear that it might be Renze after the World Cup.”
