On various air traffic apps – such as Flightradar24 and Flightaware – shows that a KLM Boeing 787 took off from Schiphol at 11.22 am with destination Muscat. The aircraft, which can accommodate more than 300 passengers, is expected to arrive at the international airport in Oman at 9:47 PM tonight (local time).

KLM says it does not share much information ‘for safety reasons’. “We are working hard on solutions and scenarios to bring passengers and KLM staff safely back to the Netherlands,” the airline said in a response.

The plane is expected to return tomorrow: the Schiphol site shows that a KLM flight from Muscat will return tomorrow morning, also operated by a Boeing 787.

Avoid risk areas

The airline previously announced that it would not fly to Dubai, Riyadh and Dammam until Thursday, due to the attacks on Iran and retaliation by that country.

Tensions in the region mean that the airspace above parts of the Middle East is largely closed. Last weekend a KLM plane stranded in Dubai. The plane took off from Amsterdam before the news of the attacks was known. from Schiphol several flights cancelled. For many travelers it was also not possible to return.

Flights are currently operated via modified routes to avoid risk areas.
