Bitter news for Hamburger SV: regular player Nicolas Capaldo is out injured until further notice. The Argentine suffered an abdominal muscle injury in the 1-2 home game against RB Leipzig. On Monday afternoon, HSV announced how long it would have to be without the midfielder.

According to an official announcement on the Hamburger SV club website, Nicolas Capaldo will be missing for several weeks. The corresponding diagnosis was made on Monday morning after detailed MRI examinations in the Athleticum am Volkspark.

This means that HSV will have to do without the 27-year-old in the coming games. A bitter setback for HSV in the fight for early relegation in the Bundesliga, as Capaldo is considered a real leading player in the Hanseatic League.

The midfielder has been on the field for the Rothosen on 20 of the 24 match days so far and was only missing once due to a yellow card suspension.

Capaldo was substituted after just 20 minutes in the duel with Leipzig. It initially remained unclear how serious the injury was. Since Monday there has been certainty, much to the discomfort of the people of Hamburg.

HSV on Wednesday in the catch-up game against Bayer Leverkusen

Capaldo has been playing for HSV since last summer and brought stability to the center under head coach Merlin Polzin with his dynamism and tackling skills. He came to Hamburg from RB Salzburg last year for a fee of around 2.1 million euros.

For the Bundesliga newcomers, things are now moving on in quick succession: On Wednesday evening (from 8:30 p.m.) there is the catch-up game against Bayer Leverkusen, in which HSV starts as an underdog, as they did against Leipzig.

The next points to stay in the league should definitely be collected against VfL Wolfsburg next Saturday (from 3:30 p.m.) and the following week against 1. FC Köln (March 14th).
