Magdeburg's Falko Michel in a duel with Karlsruhe's Roko Simic

As of: March 1, 2026 • 3:35 p.m

Despite a good performance, 1. FC Magdeburg lost 1:3 against Karlsruher SC and missed important points in the relegation battle.

The goals for the guests were scored by Louey Ben Farhat (20th/53rd minute) and captain Marvin Wanitzek (87th), while for Magdeburg it was only enough for Dariusz Stalmach to score (66th minute).

After the third defeat in a row, the situation in the bottom of the table is becoming more and more threatening for the penultimate team. Especially since some competitors scored in the basement: Münster won in Braunschweig, Fürth scored against Schalke, Kiel against Elversberg – and Dresden defeated Darmstadt.

The KSC now has 33 points in the middle of the table. Things haven’t been going well for Karlsruhe in the past few weeks either, with just two wins from twelve games including a 1:5 debacle at 1. FC Nürnberg.

Superior Magdeburgers don’t score

In a balanced opening phase, both teams tried to play forward with speed. Magdeburg took more and more control and created chances, but were immediately punished after a lack of attention: After a bad pass from Jean Hugonet, Wanitzek quickly switched and sent Ben Farhat. He left several Magdeburg players standing and hit the left corner from around 15 meters, which was worth seeing.

Ben Farhat scores for the second time

The hosts remained superior in the second half, but Ben Farhat struck again. Stalmach initially gave Magdeburg hope again with the goal, but his colleagues once again missed the possible equalizer.

KSC keeper Hans Christian Bernat saw his fifth yellow card in the final phase due to time play and will therefore be missing next week.

Magdeburg in Elversberg, Karlsruhe against Dresden

Then Karlsruhe welcomes Dynamo Dresden (Sunday lunchtime, 1.30 p.m.). Magdeburg is already a guest at SV Elversberg on Friday evening (6.30 p.m.).
