That would be a real earthquake in German football! National coach Julian Nagelsmann is said to be at the top of Real Madrid’s wish list.
This is reported by the club-related portal “Defensa Central”. Accordingly, Nagelsmann is the preferred coaching candidate of the all-powerful Real President Florentino Pérez and managing director José Ángel Sánchez for the coming season if Raul Albiol no longer works as an interim solution.
Nagelsmann is still tied to the DFB until the 2028 European Championship. Depending on the results at the World Cup in Canada, the USA and Mexico in the summer, the association is said to be prepared to let him go if the 38-year-old expresses a desire to change, it is said.
Pérez is said to have appreciated Nagelsmann’s qualities for a long time. In 2018, when the current national coach was still coaching TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, he was already a topic in Real’s management circle.
Nagelsmann remained loyal to the Kraichgauers until 2019, then ended up at FC Bayern via RB Leipzig and then took over the DFB team in September 2023 a few months after his release from Munich.
Is Julian Nagelsmann also on the list at Man United?
Real is apparently not the only top club that would like to bring Nagelsmann back into club football.
The German is also said to be very popular at Manchester United – and conversely can imagine a commitment on the island.
At least that’s what transfer insider Ben Jacobs recently claimed in an interview with the YouTube channel “The United Stand”. “Unlike some other names, Julian Nagelsmann would be interested in a job in the Premier League,” said the reporter, referring to United’s coaching search.
He referred to the extension of Thomas Tuchel as England national coach and Carlo Ancelotti’s announcement that he would remain coach of the Brazilian national team in the long term. Nagelsmann, on the other hand, “is likely to be available on the market,” Jacobs said.
Just like Real, United is currently relying on an interim solution in the coaching bench with ex-professional Michael Carrick.
