Today is ‘Rare Disease Day’. Attention is then drawn to people with rare conditions. Marilyne Deconinck (65) and Jacques Quaghebeur (74) can talk about it. Their vague complaints remained a medical mystery for a long time, until that one rare disease was diagnosed: amyloidosis. “I eventually started to doubt myself: am I imagining it?” says Jacques, who is a retired general practitioner.
