The fire brigade responded to a fire report at a service area on the west side of the A7 around 2:30 p.m. A fire reportedly broke out on the inside of the truck, after which the entire vehicle quickly became engulfed in flames.
A police spokesperson reports that the driver managed to get out of the car without injuries. The North Holland North Safety Region says that a lot of smoke is being released by the fire, which is passing over Wieringerwerf at some height.
Traffic A7 can continue
An employee of an adjacent hotel says he can see the smoke clearly. “It’s right in front of us, across the highway. Fortunately, the smoke doesn’t bother us, so we don’t have to worry.”
The safety region advises residents to close windows and doors in case of nuisance. The adjacent A7 does not currently appear to be affected by the smoke development. Traffic can continue as normal for the time being.
