The police arrested a 24-year-old man in Best on Wednesday afternoon. The man was spotted smoking a joint behind the wheel at high speed, passing a fellow officer on the A2 who was not working at the time. He was arrested moments later.

The incident started when an officer, who was not at work, drove on the A2 near Vught. There he saw a work bus with a trailer flying past at high speed.

The excavator on the trailer did not appear to be properly secured from a distance. But the officer also seems to see that the man behind the wheel is smoking a joint as he hurtles south on the highway. The officer did not hesitate and called in his colleagues.

Joint in the car
A little later, near Best, officers who were at work spotted the man. They stopped the driver. What turns out? The man was under the influence. There was indeed a half-smoked joint in the ashtray of the car and the driver tested positive for cannabis use.

It also turned out that the man did not have a driver’s license to tow a trailer. The lighting of the trailer was also not in order and the excavator was loose on the cart.

Report
The 24-year-old driver, who is not registered in the Netherlands, was immediately arrested for driving under the influence. He receives a fine for inadequate lighting, driving without the correct driver’s license and the loose excavator. He must also report to the CBR.

The bus the man was driving turned out not to be his own. The owner is now being contacted. If this happens again, the owner may lose his bus.
