Borussia Dortmund traveled to Bergamo with a 2-0 lead, but suffered a significant defeat in Italy and was eliminated from the Champions League.
In the second round of the Champions League, Borussia Dortmund failed at the hurdle of Atalanta Bergamo. BVB traveled to Italy with a 2-0 lead from the first leg, but had to admit defeat there 1:4 (0:2). This means that the Bundesliga club has been eliminated from the premier class.
The Italians started their comeback after just five minutes when Gianluca Scamacca made it 1-0. Seconds before the half-time whistle, Davide Zappacosta added (45′). In the second half, Mario Pašalić turned things around in Bergamo’s favor (57′). Karim Adeyemi subsequently brought BVB closer (75′), but Atalanta had the final say: a penalty deep into stoppage time ensured the Italians progressed.
