Construction of the public toilet in Hoogeveen will start in September. The toilet will be placed in the center and should have already been there. The project was delayed due to delays. What caused the delay?
According to the municipality, this is due to cables and pipes at the location. The toilet house should be located next to the bicycle shed, at the intersection of Hoofdstraat and Jonkheer de Jongestraat. Because there are already cables running there, construction cannot simply take place.
Hoogeveen is therefore busy finding a solution, the municipality wrote in a letter. “We now hope for the toilet facility to be completed in September 2026.”
The municipal council is responding to questions that the CDA has asked about the situation. The party wonders why the toilet is still not there and when construction can begin.
The call for a public toilet has been there for years. In April last year, the entire municipal council agreed to release money for this. A pot of 130,000 euros was released for the construction of the public toilet.
Visitors will soon pay 50 cents for a visit to the public toilet. It can also be used outside shopping hours. The latter is a long-cherished wish of politicians, entrepreneurs and the disability platform.
Hoogeveen has not been doing well for some time when it comes to toilet friendliness. This is evident from the annual survey by the Stomach, Intestinal and Liver Fund. Hoogeveen is in place 228 with a score of 2.6.
This involves looking at how many public toilets there are in the municipality, whether they are accessible enough and whether there is sufficient maintenance. According to the researchers, Hoogeveen scores well insufficient in all three areas.
In Drenthe there is one municipality that scores worse and that is Emmen. The place can be found at position 270 on the rankings with a score of 2.0. Hoogeveen hopes to be able to take steps with the arrival of a public toilet.
