Drama in the combination: Fall costs Germany a medal

The German combined athletes were on course for a medal for a long time. But a dramatic scene dashed all hopes.
The German Nordic combined athletes Vinzenz Geiger and Johannes Rydzek missed out on a medal at the Olympic Games. In the team sprint, the German duo was in the lead after ski jumping and fought for a medal for a long time on the cross-country ski trail, but two falls by Geiger in the penultimate lap cost a lot of time and dashed all medal dreams. When Norway won ahead of Finland and Austria, Germany ultimately had to settle for fifth place behind Italy. This completes a historic debacle: For the first time since 1998, the German men finished the Winter Olympics without a single medal in the Nordic combined event.
The Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo run until February 22nd.
