Therapy or divorce: Antonia Teixeira gave Evan Dando an ultimatum. And the Lemonheads’ Tiny Desk concert will never appear either.
In mid-February it was announced that Evan Dando had sent unsolicited explicit videos of himself to several women. Now new details are coming to light.
Journalist Tony Ortega reported on the videos shared by Dando in his newsletter “The Underground Bunker.” Accordingly, the singer and head of the Lemonheads sent video files of sexual content to an unnamed woman after a harmless conversation on X / Twitter – Ortega verified the material.
As a result of the disclosure, the Lemonheads canceled a planned European tour. A spokesman for the band told Variety that Evan Dando is now in a clinic and is receiving support from doctors and psychiatric professionals. He has suffered from psychological problems since his childhood.
Wife describes escalating drug use and mental breakdown
Dando’s wife Antonia Teixeira, with whom he has been married since 2023 and who lives in Brazil with their three children, turned to “Billboard” with a detailed statement. According to Teixeira, Evan Dando has struggled with alcohol and medication abuse for years – she temporarily kept prescription drugs under wraps. Dando himself had declared that he was clean, aside from LSD and prescription drugs.
According to Teixeira, her husband’s condition deteriorated dramatically during a visit to the US in January. The band appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” and recorded an NPR Tiny Desk concert – although the latter will never be released because Dando was “completely beside himself” during the recording. On the way from New York to Washington, his behavior became increasingly destabilized. After returning to São Paulo “everything collapsed”.
Videos sent under the influence – wife gives ultimatum
Antonia Teixeira further stated that Dando sent the explicit clips to multiple women under the combined influence of Adderall, THC and psilocybin mushrooms. She openly expressed her anger at the breach of trust to Billboard: “I was incredibly angry when I saw him sending messages to women. He cheated on me.”
However, Teixeira assumes that Dando accidentally sent the videos from the report from “The Underground Bunker” to the “wrong woman”: “He doesn’t remember what he did. He was in a mental breakdown.” She gave him an ultimatum: therapy or divorce. Dando is “very ashamed” when confronted with his actions. His wife also interpreted the behavior as a form of self-sabotage in the context of the recently released Lemonheads album “Love Chant”.

However, Teixeira was optimistic compared to “Billboard”: “If he really wants to do it, he can do it. I really hope that things get better.” She would see Evan Dando’s path to rehabilitation as a phase in which he had to take personal responsibility.
