(toskanews) — I non-Hodgkin lymphomas they include over 50 different shapes. Fighting them means facing a game of waiting, setbacks and restarts, in which every choice counts. This is the heart of the information campaign “Cheat against lymphoma” promoted by AbbVie.

It is scientific research that opens the way to new therapeutic options, such as bispecific antibodiescapable of improving patient care and quality of life. Enrico Derenziniprofessor of hematology at the University of Milan, explains: «With the introduction of new forms of immunotherapy we are finally able to treat lymphomas in the relapse phase which until a few years ago would not have been curable. This is thanks to cell therapies and especially B-specific antibodies. These create a bridge between the cells of our immune system and the tumor cells, activating our lymphocytes to eliminate the lymphoma.”

Lymphomas represent approximately 50% of hematological tumors and differ in aggressiveness. Marco Ladettoprofessor of hematology at the Eastern Piedmont University, adds: «We have powerful allies, i T lymphocyteswhich can be activated to target tumor cells. With these new antibodies we do not use “old-fashioned” mechanisms such as chemotherapy, but we use our own immune system against cancer.”

Among the aggressive forms, the diffuse large B-cell lymphoma it is the most frequent (4,400 cases per year in Italy). A new perspective which, as underlined Caterina GolottaMedical Director of AbbVie Italia, is a real battle against time: «Just like a game of chess, each move must anticipate the next». The website dedicated to the campaign will be launched in the coming weeks.
