Sacha Boey is considered one of FC Bayern’s biggest transfer misunderstandings. Now the Frenchman is apparently about to say goodbye.
The winter transfer window in the Bundesliga has already been closed for three days, but another high-profile departure from FC Bayern is apparently on the horizon. As Turkish media report, right-back Sacha Boey is said to be about to return to his former club Galatasaray Istanbul, from which he came in January 2024 for a transfer fee of 30 million euros.
Turkish journalist Ertan Süzgün reports that Galatasaray has already reached full agreement with Bayern about a move. As a result, a loan with a subsequent purchase option is being discussed. Galatasaray should initially cover Boey’s salary until the end of June. The 25-year-old Frenchman is expected in Istanbul today for a medical check-up. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also confirmed this.
Boey’s move is possible because the transfer window in Turkey is open until Friday. In Munich, Boey is considered one of the biggest transfer flops in the club’s history. He was never able to fulfill the expectations placed on him at the record champions and was unable to assert himself as a regular player. Various muscle injuries kept throwing him back. After Boey played regularly in nine competitive games in the first half of the season, he currently plays almost no role in head coach Vincent Kompany’s plans. Before moving to Munich, Boey was once an undisputed regular player at Galatasaray and one of the team’s stars.
Now FC Bayern is probably on the verge of ending the big transfer misunderstanding with Boey. Bayern are reportedly hoping to recoup at least half of the €30 million they paid for Boey two years ago in a transfer.
