Neighbor Henk supports him. He also has the flag hanging above the front door. Henk also believes that Europe must unitely ‘arm itself’ against the influence of Russia and China. “These flags are a kind of reminder that Europe really matters. It is important to realize that. See it as a cheerful gesture. That is why you raise the flag.”
‘Haarlem, Amsterdam, The Hague, Nieuw-Vennep’
The neighbors hope that their fellow citizens will also hang European flags on the facades. So far it hasn’t really been a storm: there are four in their street and one a block away. Henk therefore placed an appeal on social media and tells others about the campaign. “Some people think the ‘four in a row’ in our street is sufficient.”
“They can be purchased on the internet for five euros,” Henk continues. “I hope that Amsterdam and The Hague will follow suit. Nieuw-Vennep, everyone.”
