The Bundesliga game between Werder Bremen and VfL Wolfsburg is canceled. The course is not playable under the current weather conditions.
The winter weather threw the women’s Bundesliga into disarray again on Thursday. The match between Werder Bremen and runner-up VfL Wolfsburg scheduled for Saturday lunchtime has been canceled, as the German Football Association (DFB) announced.
“According to the stadium owner’s assessment, it is not possible to host the event at the Werder women’s usual home venue – 11th place – due to the icing of the grass as well as the access roads and stands next weekend,” said the DFB statement.
Even in the adjacent Weser Stadium, “stadium operations cannot be carried out with the necessary security and order.” The reason is “extensive icing and snow drifts, especially in the area of the spectator stands and access paths”. A catch-up date should be announced as soon as possible.
On Wednesday, the catch-up game between Eintracht Frankfurt and TSG Hoffenheim scheduled for Thursday was canceled for the second time. Games at Carl Zeiss Jena were also canceled due to weather conditions.
