Scare before the start: serious fall on the Olympic slope

An incident occurs during training before the Winter Olympics open. A ski racer has to be transported away. The diagnosis is now clear.
Norwegian ski racer Fredrik Möller suffered a dislocated shoulder while preparing for the Alpine Olympic competitions in Italy. The 25-year-old lost his footing in a curve during the first official downhill training in Bormio and had to be rescued from the Stelvio piste by helicopter after the fall.
After the accident, Möller initially stood up, but was no longer able to move his left arm. The rescue workers treated the Norwegian for several minutes before hanging him on a rope and transporting him away by helicopter.
After medical examinations, team doctor Trond Floberghagen confirmed the diagnosis of a dislocated shoulder. The athlete did not suffer any further injuries and has already begun rehabilitation. However, Floberghagen did not want to confirm that Möller would be completely out of the competitions: “It is too early to say more about Fredrik’s further participation in the Olympic Games,” explained the doctor.
This is Möller’s second serious accident in just a few months. The former winner of the Super-G in Bormio fell during the descent in Val Gardena in December and suffered minor back fractures and lost two teeth.
The first medals in alpine skiing will be awarded on Saturday at the men’s downhill in Bormio. In the first training session, the American Ryan Cochran-Siegle set the best time, the German Simon Jocher took 24th place. The women’s competitions take place in Cortina d”Ampezzo.
