First fall at the Winter Games: Norwegians with a helicopter transported away
The Norwegian ski racer Fredrik Möller caused the first serious fall in the Alpine Olympic competitions. The 25-year-old fell during the first official downhill training in Bormio and had to be taken off the slopes by helicopter. He had already had a serious fall on the descent in Val Gardena in December, suffering minor fractures in his back and also losing two teeth. A year ago, Möller triumphed in the Super-G on the Olympic course. The first Alpine medals of these Winter Games will be up for grabs on Saturday in the men’s downhill, which can be seen live from 10 a.m. in the Sportschau.

Shortly before the start of the Winter Games, there is no specific medal goal for the German Olympic team. The German Chef de Mission Olaf Tabor, head of competitive sports at the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), said: “We are a winter sports nation, we want to be on the podium, we want to be among the top three nations.” Four years ago in Beijing, the German team won 27 medals (12 gold, 10 silver, 5 bronze), which meant second place in the medal table.

Start before the start: mixed doubles in curling get started
The opening ceremony for the Winter Games will take place on Friday evening. But the first competitions are already taking place this Wednesday evening. The mixed doubles in curling kick off. The wait will soon be over: the 25th Winter Games will open on February 6th. The opening ceremony will take place in Milan’s San Siro Stadium, and there will also be events in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Livigno and Predazzo.
