Longtime boxing star Floyd Mayweather has sued the Showtime company and its former sports boss By Stephen Espinoza to court.
The lawsuit claims that Mayweather’s income has been embezzled for 340 million dollars, or 288 million euros. Showtime and Espinoza are accused in the lawsuit of enabling fraud when they allegedly diverted money away from Mayweather.
Mayweather refers to how the collected funds were directed, according to him, directly to the American businessman Al Haymon’s to the managed accounts instead of the earnings being paid to the contestant. The lawsuit includes several accusations, such as aiding and abetting a breach of fiduciary duty, conspiracy to enable fraud, and pursuit of an unjustified advantage.
The lawsuit focuses on the two most profitable fights of Mayweather’s career, i.e. the fights against Manny Pacquiao in 2015 and Conor McGregor in 2017. The lawsuit alleges that the final compensation for those matches did not match their actual earnings.
Mayweather’s lawyer Bobby Samini stated in the filing of the lawsuit that Mayweather is willing to go “all the way” to get the money he is legally entitled to.
– Floyd is one of the biggest pay-per-view attractions in boxing history. He made hundreds of millions of dollars for Showtime. Mr. Mayweather is now taking this fight to the courtroom to get back what he deserves. He ended his professional career undefeated (50-0) and will go to the end in the courtroom, just as he did in the ring, says Samini regarding the topic.
The lawsuit was filed shortly after Mayweather denied being in dire financial straits. The boxer’s finances have come under scrutiny.
– I work hard to build my name and reputation, and I’m not going to let anyone talk bad about me, my family or my companies. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If owning two private jets and a hundred buildings and being able to do whatever you want is bankruptcy, I’m pretty sure all of us want to live like that, Mayweather boldly announced.
The last time Mayweather fought was in August 2024, when he faced the well-known mobster By John A. Gott grandson John A. Gotti III in Mexico. The match ended in a draw.
Mayweather was scheduled to fight another boxing legend, Mike Tyson, in the spring. However, the date of the match has not been confirmed and claims have recently surfaced that Mayweather would face a Greek kickboxer in the summer By Mike Zambidis.
