The Cure won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance for “Alone.” The single is taken from their acclaimed album “Songs Of A Lost World,” which also won Best Alternative Album.
The Brits prevailed against Bon Iver (“Everything Is Peaceful Love”), Hayley Williams (“Parachute”), Turnstile (“Seein’ Stars”) and Wet Leg (“Mangetout”).
Never before in their 50-year career have The Cure received a single Grammy, and now they’ve received two in one evening. Previously there were only two nominations for the legendary band – for “Wish” (1992) and “Bloodflowers” (2001).
The Cure grateful for first Grammys
“Simon, Jason, Roger, Reeves and I would like to thank the Grammys for this wonderful award,” singer Robert Smith proudly wrote in a statement read on stage. “We are very honored to receive this award. We would also like to thank everyone who contributed to the creation of our single “Songs of a Lost World.”
The Grammys were awarded in a total of 96 categories on Sunday (February 1st) in Los Angeles. Big winners include Kendrick Lamar with five trophies, Bad Bunny (including Best Album), Billie Eilis (Best Song) and Lady Gaga (including Best Pop Vocal Album).
