The world is mourning the loss of the legendary Catherine O’Hara, who died on Friday at the age of 71 – including Macaulay Culkin, who married her son Kevin McCallister Home Alone and Home Alone and New York Alone played.

“Mom,” Culkin wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo of the two of them from the 1990 holiday classic. “I thought we had time. I wanted more. And I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say.”
“I love you,” he continued. “I’ll see you later.”
O’Hara died at her home in Los Angeles. A spokesperson confirmed her death to Rolling Stone, adding that she died after a brief, unspecified illness. Celebrities from Pedro Pascal to Lily Tomlin also honored the Canadian actress with emotional contributions online.
Remembering “Home Alone”
In 2024, O’Hara gave a speech at the ceremony unveiling Culkín’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In it she remembered seeing “Home Alone” in the cinema shortly after its release. Two boys had to go to the toilet and were terrified of missing something. “They panicked about missing something great, turned back to the screen, and one of them said, ‘It’s okay. It’s just the mother.'”
