The family of Blind Side star Quinton Aaron released a statement on Thursday (January 29), telling fans that the actor is recovering after suffering a stroke.
“We are grateful for the overwhelming love, support and prayers Quinton has received from his fans, the public and our concerned community over the past few days,” their statement read ABC News. “To update everyone, he has had a stroke. He is conscious, responsive and recovering. The Aaron family has much work to do to improve their loved one’s situation but will keep everyone updated on Quinton’s health as we see fit.”
Aaron’s family also noted that any information about the actor’s health that does not come from his “official blood relative” through their spokesperson Liana Mendoza “should not be considered factual information.” His family warned that there would be “legal consequences” for those who spoke about his condition without consent.
Quinton Aaron collapsed on stairs
News of Aaron’s hospitalization broke earlier this week. TMZ was first to report that he collapsed and was hospitalized in Atlanta the week before. His wife Margarita told the station that he was walking up the stairs when he lost feeling in his legs. “He’s making great progress,” she told TMZ at the time. “We all trust God that he will come out of here fully recovered.”
On one GoFundMe pagewhich was set up to cover his medical costs, said he was on ventilator support due to a blood infection. The fundraiser, organized with the help of the Veterans Aid Network, where Quinton was a volunteer, has currently reached more than $45,000 of its $35,000 goal.
Aaron is known for his role as Michael Oher opposite Sandra Bullock in the 2009 biopic Blind Side. The film grossed over $300 million at the box office, his portrayal of former NFL player Michael Oher was praised, while Bullock won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Leigh Anne Tuohy.
