The current swing bridge, which was irreparably damaged by a collision in 2022, will be replaced by a modern table bridge that will be lifted higher and offer more space for shipping. At the same time, the City of Bruges and the Roads & Traffic Agency are renewing the connecting roads, cycle routes and sewerage.
The new bridge should ensure smoother shipping traffic, less disruption to road traffic and more safety for cyclists, including at the intersection with the R30.
