Achmed was unsuspectingly digging when he came across the mountain of skulls. “We tried to clean it up a bit, but it was too much,” he says. “It was just scary. A colleague couldn’t sleep.”

Local residents also look at the bones with amazement. “It looks a bit like wood, it’s very surreal,” he says. “It’s a bit gruesome. You also saw a pile of bones. It’s very strange to see like that,” says a student.

Forensic experts examined the remains and concluded that they are indeed ancient skulls. Employees of the municipality’s urban archeology department collected the remains.
