Lily Allen releases WEST END GIRL physically: multiple vinyl variants, CD with original paintings and limited edition USB stick in the shape of a butt plug.
With a mixture of calculated provocation, artistic ambition and clever marketing, Lily Allen accompanied the release of the physical versions of her album WEST END GIRL. The British singer-songwriter’s fifth studio album was released digitally last October and marked a highly acclaimed comeback after her 2018 work NO SHAME. Now Allen is following up – with vinyl editions, CDs and a USB stick designed in the shape of a butt plug and attracting attention far beyond the pop world.
Chart success and millions of streams
WEST END GIRL quickly became a success. In the UK, the album reached number two in the charts and received a nomination for Album of the Year at the 2026 BRIT Awards. Since its release, the work has been streamed more than 275 million times. The song “Pussy Palace” was particularly successful, reaching number eight in the British charts and marking Allen’s highest chart success in over a decade.
Limited editions for collectors
The physical formats that have now been released are aimed at collectors and fans who continue to value music as a tangible object. Several vinyl variants are offered – including cream, blue and white polka dots, transparent and classic black vinyl – as well as a CD edition. The records and CDs also contain original paintings by the Spanish artist Nieves González, who also designed the album cover. In doing so, Allen combines music and visual art and positions “West End Girl” as a total work of art that goes beyond the pure listening experience.
Butt plug USB: Systematic provocation
The limited edition USB stick in the shape of a butt plug, which also contains the album, is particularly controversial. According to the description, the product is marketed as a “fun item” intended “exclusively for data storage.” This unusual packaging fits Allen’s image, which has been associated with breaking taboos, irony and an open approach to sexuality since the beginning of her career.
Dealing with a marriage failure
In terms of content, “West End Girl” is strongly autobiographical. The album was made shortly after the collapse of Allen’s marriage to actor David Harbour, who was reportedly unfaithful. In a four-star review, music magazine NME described the work as a “biting, vulnerable and triumphant comeback” and concluded: “At the end of ‘West End Girl’ it becomes clear that the relationship in this story may be over, but Lily Allen’s comeback has only just begun.”
The 40-year-old musician proudly presents her new album on Instagram:
Biggest tour of her career
The album’s success has also fueled Allen’s live plans. She has announced an arena tour of Great Britain and Ireland next summer, during which she wants to play WEST END GIRL in its entirety. It will be the biggest headlining tour of her career, following smaller club shows in the spring. She has also been confirmed to headline the 2026 Boardmasters festival and will perform at London’s Mighty Hoopla festival, which sold over 35,000 tickets in just 30 minutes.
Critical acclaim and annual best lists
Critics also responded positively: WEST END GIRL landed at number 13 on NME’s list of the 50 best albums of 2025, while “Pussy Palace” reached number 21 on the best songs of the year. In doing so, Allen builds on previous successes and underlines her relevance in a constantly changing pop landscape.
Porsche incident in Los Angeles
Recently, the singer also made headlines outside of music. Earlier this month, she performed the explicit track “Pussy Palace” live at an intimate concert in Los Angeles and reported that she was recently forced off the road in her new Porsche by a truck – an episode she commented on with her usual laconic humor.
