Berlin Fashion Week begins this Friday in freezing temperatures. Over the next four days, a diverse mix of Berlin veterans, the next generation and international brands such as Buzigahill from Uganda or Lueder from London will be presented.

Kicking things off on Friday are some well-known names from Berlin Fashion Week, including Danny Reinke, Ester Perbandt and Marc Cain. But younger brands such as Colors and Clara Colette Miramon as well as the sustainably oriented label Maqu Lab by the Peruvian Marisa Fuentes Prado are also taking advantage of the opportunity to present themselves to the local fashion scene and international guests on the opening day.

International and domestic highlights

Guests invited by fashion association Fashion Council Germany include Stavros Karelis, founder of London concept store Machine-A, David Smedley, Head of Buying at Chicago-based menswear retailer Svrn, and Marcus Söderlind, CEO of Stockholm-based fashion retailer Nitty Gritty, as well as various content creators and fashion editors from titles such as Vogue, Pause Magazine and Perfect Magazine.

In addition to the international audience, selected actors who have traveled will also contribute to an attractive program, including the show by John Lawrence Sullivan, which is one of the highlights of the fashion week. The Japanese brand, known for its modern interpretation of the art of tailoring, is showing as part of “Intervention”, the concept of the Berlin PR agency Reference Studios, which has already brought names such as Anonymous Club, Mowalola and David Koma to Berlin in previous seasons. This time, in addition to John Lawrence Sullivan, Kenneth Ize, Dagger and again the Berlin label GmbH are part of the fashion and cultural program. But it also includes a cooperation with the TED Talk lecture series and the “Doofer Street Market Berlin”. The latter is a pop-up concept whose name is based on the international concept store Dover Street Market and, in collaboration with the music label, offers a mix of fashion and culture.

In addition to the international presence, the next generation, including SF1OG, Richert Beil and Haderlump, are also showing what the German capital has to offer. The three brands have firmly established themselves over the last few years and have also attracted interest from international buyers, as Karelis confirmed to FashionUnited last year.

Berlin Fashion Week offers around 40 collection presentations and runs until February 2nd.
