Sales slightly increasing in Europe at the end of 2025: hybrid and electric vehicles growing, petrol and diesel vehicles declining sharply. The ranking of the best-selling models

If the Italian automotive market took a step back (-2.1%), the Old Continent (excluding the United Kingdom and EFTA countries) closed 2025 with slight growth, equal to 1.8%. There were approximately 10.8 million (data Acea) the vehicles registered in 2025 in Europe, 17.4% of which are electric, growing by more than 4 points compared to 2024. Plug-in hybrids are also growing (9.4% share, +2.2% vs 2024), while cordless hybrids are confirmed as the preferred fuel source, exceeding 34% of share. The decline in prices is now consolidated traditional fuels, given the registrations of petrol cars decreased by 18.7%, with significant drops in all main markets. France recorded the sharpest decline, with a 32% drop in registrations, followed by Germany (-21.6%), Italy (-18.2%) and Spain (-16%). Diesel declines further (-22.4%) to reach an 8.9% share in 2025. The final X-ray shows a Europe that is laboriously proceeding towards the energy transition, awaiting possible community incentives which, as happened above all in Germany, France and Italy, continue to offer an important, if not decisive, impetus to the diffusion of battery-powered vehicles.
