The deal is finalized: Eintracht Braunschweig is bringing in reinforcements for the storm. The CV of the 20-year-old newcomer is promising.

Eintracht Braunschweig has hit the transfer market again shortly after the start of the second half of the 2nd Bundesliga: Jovan Mijatović is now strengthening BTSV’s attack. The club announced this on Thursday. Accordingly, the 20-year-old striker is moving from New York City FC to Oker on loan until the end of the season. Eintracht then has a purchase option and the option to extend the loan. In Braunschweig he receives the number 11 on his shirt.

Sports managing director Benjamin Kessel raves about the new addition’s facilities. “Jovan Mijatovic is a highly talented player who has already experienced a lot for his young age,” he says. “With him we will be more variable on offense and get a component that we don’t yet have in the squad.” The Serb can be used both in the tenth position and in the attacking position. “He brings outstanding skills and quality,” continued Kessel. “We are convinced that he will provide a goal threat and give us a lot of joy.”

Mijatović played on loan for the Belgian first division club OH Leuven last year. In his twelve months in Belgium he played 23 competitive games in which he contributed one goal and one assist.

The attacker took his first notable footballing steps at the Serbian top club Red Star Belgrade. There he went through the youth teams and later made the jump to the professionals. In February 2024 he finally moved to New York for a transfer fee of eight million euros. His market value is currently estimated by the data portal “transfermarkt.de” at 2.2 million euros.

In Braunschweig, Mijatović is the desired addition to Erencan Yardımcı up front. Most recently, three offensive players left the club: Christian Conteh (1. FC Heidenheim), Sebastian Polter (Partizan Belgrade) and Levente Szabó (Zagłębie Lubin). Faride Alidou (1. FC Kaiserslautern) and Anas Bakhat (most recently Alemannia Aachen) were added. With Sidi Sané and Robert Ramsak, there are also two other attackers in coach Heiner Backhaus’ squad.

Eintracht will face Karlsruher SC on Saturday (kick-off: 1 p.m.). Mijatović could already help. BTSV lost game one in the second half of the season against 1. FC Magdeburg 3-0 in front of their home crowd. This was followed by a zero against bottom team Greuther Fürth. The lead over a direct relegation zone is now only two points.
