Ex-Premier League player moves to the top league

SV Atlas Delmenhorst is bringing in an experienced Dutchman. But it was only the support of an unusual partner that made the transfer possible.

SV Atlas Delmenhorst has signed Dutch midfielder Chris David. The 32-year-old is moving from Cyprus to Delme with immediate effect. During his career, David played, among others, for FC Fulham in the English Premier League and Twente Enschede in the Eredivisie in the Netherlands.

The transfer was made possible by Zentrum Kinder- und Jugendhilfe GmbH from Bremen, the club announced in a press release. The company gave the club a helping hand, said SV Atlas. “Without the help, a transfer of this magnitude would not have been possible,” said chairman Jörg Neunaber.

According to the club, contact with David had existed for a long time. Sporting director Stephan Ehlers explained that they wanted to sign the player in the summer. “The fact that we were able to convince him to move to SV Atlas from Cyprus makes this transfer even more special for us,” said Ehlers. David brings a lot of experience and also fits the club personally.

The Aramean David justified his move with the desire to spend the last years of his career closer to his family in Enschede. “I had a great time in Cyprus and they wanted to keep me there, but my goal was always to play the last years of my active career closer to my family in Enschede,” said the 32-year-old. After his playing career, he plans to get his coaching license or work in a football school.

And further: “With Atlas I want to get into the regional league and help the club establish itself there and look further up,” he explained. David will join the squad immediately, the club announced.
