Anthropic is seeking a $10 billion funding round. The targeted valuation would make the company one of the most valuable private tech companies in the world.

• Anthropic plans a $10 billion funding round at a $350 billion valuation
• The target valuation is almost double the September 2025 round
• Amazon is the company’s largest investor with around $8 billion

$350 billion: valuation almost doubled

Anthropic, the developer of the AI chatbot Claude, is planning a new round of funding of $10 billion at a valuation of $350 billion. The Wall Street Journal reported this on January 7, 2026, citing people familiar with the matter.

The targeted valuation would be nearly double the previous funding round in September 2025, when Anthropic raised $13 billion at a valuation of $183 billion. The new round is expected to be led by Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC and investment firm Coatue Management. According to the Wall Street Journal report, the deal could take place within a few weeks, although the final amount and terms could still change.

Major investors and billion-dollar partnerships

Anthropic already counts several tech giants among its major shareholders. Amazon has invested a total of around $8 billion in the company, making it the largest donor. According to TechCrunch, Google holds around 14 percent of the shares after investing around $3 billion.

In addition to the planned financing round, Microsoft and NVIDIA announced a separate investment of up to $15 billion in November 2025. In return, Anthropic will purchase computing capacity worth $30 billion via Microsoft Azure, which will run on NVIDIA chips. Anthropic declined to comment to Reuters on its current financing plans.

IPO preparations and competition in the AI market

The new round of financing could be one of the last before a possible IPO. As Reuters reported, citing the Financial Times, Anthropic has hired law firm Wilson Sonsini to prepare for an IPO that could take place as early as 2026. An Anthropic spokesman told Reuters at the time that the company had not yet decided whether or when it would go public.

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, including CEO Dario Amodei. The company has made a name for itself with its Claude models, particularly among developers for programming tasks. Its main competitor OpenAI is currently valued at around $500 billion and is reportedly planning an IPO at a valuation of up to $830 billion.
