It will be make or break for PSV on Wednesday evening. The Eindhoven club has to play against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The tension is palpable, and you can feel it in the center of Eindhoven. “I’m drinking away my nerves a bit,” says a supporter.
It is not yet extremely busy in the center of Eindhoven. A supporter who is already standing at a bar thinks he knows why. “Many people probably still have to work. But I am willing to do something for it,” he says proudly. “New year, new hours, so I could take in spare hours again. Then you just have to be there.”
Another supporter at the same bar has a different explanation. “Maybe they’re just too nervous to come, haha!”
Nerves
The tension is indeed palpable, says another supporter who is drinking beer. “I’m there early, peak early as they say.” He admits that he mainly drinks the beers to counteract the tension.
What does he think the outcome will be? “It’s going to be an even game today. And if we lose, we’ll continue, because the clubs under PSV don’t care either. Always stay positive, guys,” he laughs. But if he remains realistic: “88th minute, we will score 1-1. It will be a hard-fought battle.”
Another fan also thinks that a goal will be scored in the last minute, but then it becomes 2-1. “I think Perišić will score and in the last minute Obispo. I’m going for the win, then I have less tension.”
To the stadium
“Just a point gamesand then it’s good,” says another supporter. He came to the city with his friend to watch the match in the stadium. His friend starts to laugh at his answer. “He’s an optimist,” he says laughing. When asked whether he thinks PSV will lose, he responds: “No haha, it’s not too bad. I trust it, but I find it really exciting.”
It was difficult for them to get tickets. “Everyone is suddenly a PSV fan, because PSV is doing so well now,” says the duo. They cannot often go to away games. If PSV loses, one thing will be solved for them: “Then those people who suddenly become PSV fans will leave and the real ones will remain, haha!”
The matches against Bayern Munich start on Wednesday evening at nine o’clock.
