Meteorologist Anniina Valtonen tells about her early work rhythm on her Instagram account.
Valtonen shared the video taken from the parking lot of his workplace on his Instagram account. The video was filmed at half past four in the morning and at the time of filming Valtonen’s work shift is about to start.
– This morning shift of ours at Yle always causes confusion in people, how can we be cheerful so early in the morning reporting the weather live. That’s how I thought of showing this other side, Valtonen says.
According to Valtonen, the morning shift starts three hours before the live broadcast. The night before the video was filmed, Valtonen slept in short bursts, first for three hours and then for two hours.
– At the moment I feel bad, but fatigue always causes me to feel bad. I know that when I go to that workplace, I open the weather maps and start doing chores, I’ll cheer up. Then the bad feeling goes away.

Valtonen talks about other issues related to fatigue.
– I’m also cold. Tiredness always makes me feel cold.
Valtonen says that he also likes comfort.
– The thought of jeans freaks me out. Also the thought of all the busyness makes me jump. I’m currently wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants.
In the video, Valtonen says that he will head to the workplace next, where breakfast will initially be served.
– I make all the weather maps myself. So I’m preparing that weather broadcast. No one writes anything for us on a reading device or ready-made texts. We don’t even have one in use, so I have to familiarize myself with the weather so that I can tell about it live, Valtonen says.
When the maps are ready, Valtonen goes to change clothes and apply make-up.
– I’ll go get the mic and then the morning will start. When adrenaline rushes into the body, it perks up and then the morning goes by its own weight.
After the three-hour live broadcast, the weather forecast is shown on the screen every half hour.
– After that, you can go home to sleep. At the moment, I feel like instead of going to the workplace, I would like to curl up in my own bed and go back to sleep, Valtonen describes.
Valtonen gets nice comments from his followers.
– Oh, it’s wonderful that you can handle it. Good sleep after the shift.
– Well huhhuh, quite a battle of wills with fatigue. It’s great that you can do it though. It’s a pleasure to watch your work, you’ve overcome fatigue.
– Thank you for waking up to serve us viewers.
– Not everyone can do that. You get yourself started well, fatigue is not noticeable in weather broadcasts. Thank you for telling these interesting things to the viewers.
One of Valtonen’s followers has asked how many morning shifts there are in a row.
– It depends on the people. Everyone can influence this. Three is the maximum. For some, one is enough. I myself do at most two, Valtonen answers.
