Nicki Minaj will continue her approach to the MAGA movement. The rapper will perform at a US Treasury Department event this week.
Summit to launch the “Trump Accounts”
Minaj is among several celebrity guests at the summit. These include Kevin O’Leary (known from “Shark Tank” and “Marty Supreme”) and Cheryl Hines (actress from “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and wife of Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr.). Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent are also scheduled to speak.
The focus of the summit is the launch of the so-called “Trump Accounts”. This is a new type of investment account for children that was introduced last year as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. These accounts are open to people under the age of 18 and the investments grow tax-free. Similar to an individual retirement account.
Account holders can withdraw the money as adults, but only for certain purposes, such as education, buying a home, starting a business or saving for retirement.
Minaj’s statement and goals of the program
Minaj alluded to the program in a post on X, confirming her participation in the event. “The true meaning of paying it forward,” she wrote. “Early financial education and financial support for our children will give them a big head start in life. In some cases, they will even teach their own parents how to invest and what to invest in. That makes me very happy.”
At the launch of the Trump Accounts, the government announced that all babies born during Trump’s second term would receive $1,000 from the state – via a tax credit as start-up capital. However, participation in the Trump accounts is not automatic; parents have to register their children themselves.
Private donations and political classification
At the end of last year, Michael and Susan Dell also announced a donation of $6.25 billion, which would be paid out in tranches of $250 each to children under the age of ten. The Dells said eligibility will be determined by ZIP code, with a focus on children from regions where the median household income is less than $150,000.
The Trump administration appears determined to place a strong emphasis on the issue of Trump accounts – variants of such programs have enjoyed bipartisan support for years. This is evident not only from the celebrity-studded launch event, but also from reportedly planned commercials during the Super Bowl. All of this is happening against the backdrop of a deepening cost of living crisis, an immigration crackdown and another deadly ICE shooting of a U.S. citizen in Minneapolis.
Nicki Minaj and the MAGA movement
For Minaj, the appearance at the Treasury Summit follows her increasing turn to the political right and her open support for Trump and the MAGA movement. Just over a month ago, she made a surprise appearance at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest alongside Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika.
