Ahead of the announcement of his fourth album, “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally,” Harry Styles left cryptic messages around the world. One of them was: “Let the light in”. As it now turns out, the reference was a reference to the album’s first single, titled “Aperture.” The song will be released worldwide on Thursday at 7pm EST, ahead of the LP’s release on March 6th.
Aperture meaning and visual clues
“Aperture” refers to the aperture of a camera and controls how much light is allowed through. Last week’s album announcement was accompanied by a new merch collection, including a limited-edition box set featuring a rechargeable 35mm film camera.
Styles also shared an Instagram Story with an animation in which the single’s title opens and closes – letting light in and blocking it out again. The accompanying grid post shows Styles smiling in the studio.
“Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally” is Styles’ first album since Harry’s House from 2022. The 12-track album reunites the musician with his long-time companion Kid Harpoon. In 2022, Harpoon told Rolling Stone that he was looking forward to following up on its Grammy-winning predecessor, which won Album of the Year in 2023.
Collaborating with Kid Harpoon and looking forward
“What I hope for the future with Harry is that whatever comes next, we don’t try to overthink it or model ourselves on what we’ve done before,” he said.
“Let’s just try to do something new and land somewhere exciting. And hopefully everyone will be as excited to hear it as we are. I feel like we don’t really know what it is yet. It could be anything – and that’s the most exciting thing about it.”
More than 1,300 days after his last music release, Styles is now ready to step back into the light.
