Battle rap legend Tierstar predicts PA Sports great success with its planned battle rap comeback. Why the rapper has nothing to lose.

On the occasion of a hard-fought rap battle between SSYNIC and Beastboy, German rapper PA Sports announced that he was thinking about returning to battle rap. The label boss is also specific about this project: the location, date and potential opponent have already been determined, the Essen native shared this in an Instagram story. The musician seems to be serious about his ambitions. But what does the scene say about it?

This is what the battle rap veteran says about the planned comeback

The former “Rap am Wednesday” host Tierstar commented on the chances of PA Sports in an interview with “Deutschrap Ideal” and classified the project in general terms. He made it clear that as an already established rapper you could lose a lot in the battle rap scene. If you were to speak too loudly and “fill your mouth too much” but then “can’t manage three sentences”, you shouldn’t be surprised that you would lose your recognition within the scene. However, if PA Sports treats the scene’s culture with respect, it doesn’t have to worry about its standing, says Tierstar.

The most exemplary German rapper

As an example of his point of view, the battle rap expert cited the rapper Beastboy, who has already enjoyed success outside of battle rap. In the event of defeats, he always looked for new challenges and never gave up. That earned him a lot of respect within the scene. If PA Sports, which has expressed much admiration for the battle rap scene in the past, adopts this behavior, Tierstar sees no threat to its reputation. He said in the interview: “I think PA’s attitude is really the most exemplary. If he pulls this off now, he’ll be the most exemplary German rapper there is. He’ll top everything for me.”

Big dreams for the scene

As the interview continued, both Tierstar and the format’s host, Simon, said that they would like to see more mainstream acts enter the battle rap scene to increase awareness and popularity for it. The whole thing also has the potential to increase the standing of the participating rappers and generally sharpen their skills. “Maybe the Uber Arena will be filled,” said the former presenter in an interview.

Not the first big name on the scene

PA Sports is also not the first big name to appear in the world of battle rap. Capital Bra and Finch Asocial, for example, made a name for themselves in the “Rap on Wednesday” format and subsequently made it big. How the label CEO will fare in the milieu remains to be seen.
