The now 48-year-old actress is struggling with a collapsed jaw and cheekbone. Damage she probably sustained from years of using cocaine. She started doing this when she was only fourteen years old. That cocaine also turned out to be adulterated with pesticides, she claims.
Danniella played the beautiful Sam Mitchell in the daily BBC soap for years EastEnders† Danniella first rose to fame in EastEnders, playing the part for a decade from 1990, returning to the series once more in 2009 and again in 2016.
Ingenious operation
She has already had the first two of a total of five surgeries, which she underwent at Liverpool’s Aintree Hospital. The next step is an ingenious operation that uses part of her ribs to repair her cheekbones and return her face to its natural shape.
The former soap star hopes improving her appearance will end the daily diatribes and negativity she receives on her social media accounts and has damaged her confidence.
Online trolling
Danniella says: “I know I look like this and I hate it too. But I am also constantly bullied by all kinds of online trolls. People send me messages like, ‘You’re so ugly, you’re a junkie, you should just kill yourself’. I’ve also had messages that people are happy I’m not returning to EastEnders, because they don’t want me to scare their children.”
Brave Danniella doesn’t hide in the house and just lets herself be photographed. The divorced mother of two grown children tries to make the best of it, but in the meantime feels very lonely. She hopes to be able to pick up her life again through her operations.
