Ex-Stuttgart player punishes VfB for poor use of chances

VfB Stuttgart is struggling with its own chances against Union Berlin: the capital city team can rely on their jokers.
Despite having the best chances to score, VfB Stuttgart did not get beyond a 1-1 (0-0) draw against 1. FC Union Berlin on Sunday afternoon. Chris Führich’s lead equalized Wooyeong Jeong.
After two wins at the start of the new year, the Swabians have suffered a small setback in the fight for the Champions League places. Most recently, Stuttgart defeated Bayer Leverkusen (4:1) and Eintracht Frankfurt (3:2).
The game was characterized by many duels and small fouls, and the game rarely flowed. Josha Vagnoman brought VfB into their first dangerous situation (6th). But the Berliners also appeared again and again in front of the VfB goal – and not just at set pieces. After a mistake by Stuttgart’s defense chief Jeff Chabot, Andrej Ilić wanted to be too precise and hit the post (14th).
After the break, VfB came out of the break well. Undav failed from a few meters to the visiting goalkeeper Rönnow. Hoeneß’s troops quickly lost the momentum they had gained for a short time and from then on Union made more progress again. Burcu was only a few centimeters short of getting to the ball in the six-yard box. Janik Haberer also narrowly missed the visitors’ lead.
After a good hour, the strong Chris Führich redeemed Stuttgart with a technically strong goal from 16 meters. The 28-year-old thus confirms his recent rising form. He was substituted after 75 minutes. Ten minutes before the end, Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller had the preliminary decision to make it 2-0, but shot completely freely over the goal. And that should take revenge.
Substitute Nsoki prevailed on the left and fed ex-Stuttgart Jeong, who was also a substitute (83′). It was the third goal by a Berlin substitute in the third game in a row. The South Korean could have scored again shortly afterwards, but VfB goalkeeper Nübel made a brilliant save.
After winning points this year, Union remains undefeated, just like the Swabians.
