Borussia Dortmund are making progress in signing Brazilian talent Kauã Prates (17), according to a report. The left-back from Cruzeiro is supposed to replace Almugera Kabar (19), who is willing to change. The club has so far prevented BVB from making a successful deal, which Prates himself is said to have agreed on in principle. Meanwhile, Kabar is said to have been convinced by HSV coach Merlin Polzin to move to Hamburg, as the “Ruhr News” reported. Accordingly, there are increasing signs of a move to the Rothosen, although not everything has been finalized yet. That’s why VfL Wolfsburg, among others, is still lurking.

It is said that the discussions between HSV and the players are well advanced. It’s just a matter of details. The Hamburg team, especially Polzin, is said to have shown Kabar an attractive sporting perspective. The left-back should challenge Miro Muheim (27). The exchange with the HSV coach was characterized by a lot of trust.
The catch: An agreement with BVB is still pending. The crux of the matter is the different ideas regarding transfer fees. The Dortmunders don’t want to sell Kabar at a bargain price. A loan with an option to buy is also conceivable, but the players prefer a fixed transfer.
If Dortmund cannot reach an agreement with HSV, VfL Wolfsburg could benefit. According to the report, there have also already been discussions with the wolves. And interest from the Premier League, something like that from Brentford FC, is still there.

Kabar was part of the U17 national team in 2023 that won the World and European Championship titles for Germany. However, the breakthrough did not materialize at BVB. He was only granted one starting eleven and four short appearances in the Bundesliga – and that only in the last season. This season he had an exceptional autumn in the Regionalliga West. From the second half of September to the end of the year, Kabar appeared ten times for the BVB reserves. He was involved in five goals: four of his own goals and one assist. He is currently out with a sprained knee ligament.
As Kabar’s successor: BVB agrees with Brazilian jewel Prates
The fact that BVB is ready to let Kabar go may also be due to the fact that there is a successor in the starting blocks, Brazil gem Prates. “Sky” had recently reported that Dortmund had reached a verbal agreement with the 17-year-old for a move in the summer. BVB sees the talent as the right next step in development. According to new information from the broadcaster, the teenager’s club is now getting closer to being awarded a contract.

Prates’ club Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte has so far stood in the way. An initial offer of just under 10 million euros was rejected. “We are not in a hurry to sell, we are not looking to sell,” said sporting director Joaquim Pinto recently. “We have already received offers from a world-class club, which we rejected because we felt they did not yet match the player’s potential.”
Update January 16th: This attitude may soon change. How “Sky” reported on Friday, the clubs are now in advanced discussions. It is expected that an overall transfer package of 12 million to 13 million euros will be agreed upon. Prates himself has agreed to a contract until 2031. New talks with his employer are said to have been scheduled for Friday.
Prates has 14 appearances for Cruzeiros professionals in which he scored one goal. In December, Transfermarkt introduced him to the German audience in detail in the talent calendar. “He has enormous potential and above-average maturity,” said former coach Leonardo Jardim when asked by TM at the time. “He can be used very variably and has only a few weaknesses. In addition to his technical qualities, he has excellent athleticism. He doesn’t drop in defense or offense and hits crosses and set pieces very well. He is a balanced full-back that all coaches like.”
