The Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2027 takes cycling professionals through Scotland, England and Wales in three stages.

The organizers of the Tour of France presented the first three sections on Thursday. On July 2, 2027, the men will start in Scotland’s capital Edinburgh. It’s 184 kilometers to Carlisle, England. On the second day, 223 kilometers from Kewick to Liverpool are on the agenda. The third stage will be held entirely in Wales: from Welshpool it goes again over 223 kilometers to the capital Cardiff.

The tour last started in Great Britain in 2014, then in the county of Yorkshire in the north of England. 2027 will be the fifth Grand Départ in the kingdom for men and the first for women. It is the first time that both Grand Départs will take place in the same country outside of France.

Women’s tour leads through England

The Tour de France Femmes begins on July 30th with a stage from Leeds to Manchester. On the second day the section from Manchester to Sheffield is on the program. The third stage will take place in London.

“Britain has always welcomed the Tour with passion and pride and the routes we are introducing today reflect the beauty and diversity of the British landscape,” said Tour Director Christian Prudhomme.

Tour starts abroad are now more of a rule than an exception. The past editions were launched in Copenhagen (2022), Bilbao (2023) and Florence (2024). This year the peloton will be sent on the three-week journey in Barcelona.
