The case in which a total of 5 defendants, including Fenerbahçe football players Jaden Quinn Oosterwolde and Mert Hakan Yandaş, were tried regarding the events that broke out after the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby played on May 19, 2024 in the Trendyol Super League, was decided.

While the defendant Yandaş, who was detained for another crime, was connected via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS), the complainant Ali Çelikkıran and the lawyers of the parties attended the hearing at the Istanbul 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance.

Mert Hakan Yandaş’s lawyer, Mert Öcel, claimed that Galatasaray Board Member Timur Kuban took photographs at the hearing.

The court judge also filed a criminal complaint against Kuban, whose phone was confiscated and ordered to be removed from the hearing.

Complainant Çelikkıran, whose statement was asked at the hearing, stated that his complaint was continuing and asked for the defendants to be punished.

Claiming that the incident in question occurred because the complainant touched the club doctors and flags, the promised supporter said, “The flag may not be valuable to them, but for us, both the Turkish flag and the Fenerbahçe flag are honor and dignity, they cannot be trivialized. I am innocent, I want my acquittal.” he said.

Yandaş’s lawyers argued that their client was innocent and demanded his acquittal.

Asked for his last words, Yandaş said, “I have nothing to say.” he declared.

Concluding the case, the court sentenced the 5 defendants to 1 year, 4 months and 11 days in prison for “injuring people in a manner that would cause bone fractures in participation under unfair provocation”.

The court decided to postpone the announcement of the verdict for all defendants.

FROM THE INDICTMENT

In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, stadium manager Ali Çelikkıran was listed as “complainant”, Fenerbahçe football players Jaden Quinn Oosterwolde and Mert Hakan Yandaş, Fenerbahçe Club doctor Ertuğrul darkness, former Fenerbahçe manager Hulusi Belgü and coach İsmail Kartal’s son Emre Kartal were listed as “suspect”.

In the indictment, it was stated that after the match played at RAMS Park Stadium on May 19, 2024, the incident broke out after the technical staff, managers and football players of Fenerbahçe Sports Club entered the field to enjoy the joy of victory.

In the indictment, which stated that an investigation was launched against the suspects upon the application of Galatasaray Sports Club President Dursun Aydın Özbek, Metin Öztürk and Erden Timur to the prosecutor’s office through their lawyers, it was stated that the lapel camera records of the police officers on duty in the field were requested from the Sports Security Branch Directorate, the received images were examined and the recordings were silent.

In the indictment, it was stated that stadium manager Ali Çelikkıran also filed a complaint and that the medical report he submitted to the investigation file showed that he had a “cervical vertebra (neck fracture)”.

In the indictment, which stated that Çelikkıran was sent to the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Branch Directorate along with the doctor’s reports and that a report was taken regarding his health condition, it was stated that, according to the report, the C5 vertebra spinous process fracture detected in Çelikkıran was not a mild one that did not endanger his life, but was not so mild that it could be resolved with a simple medical intervention, and that it had a moderate impact on his vital functions.

In the indictment, according to the scope of the entire file, it was stated that during the events that took place on the field after the match, the suspects acted in unity of thought and action and hit Çelikkıran by kicking and punching.

In the indictment, which pointed out that Hulusi Belgü came behind Çelikkıran after the fight, pulled her hair and hit her on the back, it was emphasized that the suspects committed a crime against the complainant as a participant.

In the indictment, the 5 defendants were asked to be imprisoned from 2 years and 3 months to 6 years and 9 months each for the crimes of “intentional injury that will cause bone fracture or dislocation in the body” and “being violent in sports fields and damaging the facilities”.
