It wasn’t until more than an hour later that Nick Woltemade was substituted on. He doesn’t manage to score a goal. With Newcastle United he lost the first semi-final duel with Manchester City in the League Cup.

Nick Woltemade was unable to prevent Newcastle United from losing 2-0 in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final against Manchester City after his late substitution. The German national soccer player came into the game in the 69th minute, but the 23-year-old failed to score.

It was Newcastle’s first home defeat in a competitive game since the end of September. The second leg is scheduled for February 4th in Manchester. The final opponents will be the two London rivals Arsenal FC and Chelsea FC.

City’s €72 million winter signing Antoine Semenyo scored the first goal at St. James Park in the 53rd minute. He had only been signed by Bournemouth FC four days before the match and was celebrating again just a few minutes after his first goal.

Semenyo artistically pushed the ball into the goal after a corner. But after a minute-long review by the video referee, the goal was disallowed. Erling Haaland is said to have been offside by millimeters.

Woltemade then came into the game and was repeatedly looked for and played by his teammates up front. But he didn’t manage to score, instead Manchester struck again in the long added time through Rayan Cherki (90th + 8th).
