Today the judge finally pronounced the verdict in the Kortrijk police court. The victim Piet Sintobin bears no responsibility whatsoever. The subcontractor’s company, the subcontractor itself and two workers have been sentenced to fines. The main contractor and his company have been acquitted, their lawyer Frédéric Busschaert is satisfied with this.
The subcontractor’s company will receive a fine of 24,000 euros, of which 4,800 euros will be postponed. The manager was effectively fined 2,400 euros. In addition, the workers were fined 1,600 and 2,000 euros. Sintobin’s family – the two brothers, the sister and the mother – had asked for a total of 42,000 euros and they got it. Stefaan Sintobin, Piet’s brother, reacted very emotionally.
