“Pay attention to your knees so that they do the same,” is the instruction given by ski instructor Renate Peters van Nijenhof to her class. She tries with great enthusiasm to improve the posture of her skiers. “Most who come here do so in preparation for their holiday.”

Three ski slopes

There are three ski slopes in North Holland. For example, in Spaarnwoude you have a covered track and, just like in Bergen, you also have a brush track in Huizen. Despite these facilities, ski instructor Angeline Jehenson does not see the Netherlands becoming a ski country any time soon.

“It takes a lot of money and investment,” she says. As a former Dutch ski champion, she knows better than anyone how much it takes to reach the top.

Peters van Nijenhof: “We would like to, but you just don’t have the environment with you. After all, you have to cover a lot of distance.” There will be no Dutch skiers active at the Olympic Games in Milan next month.
