The United captain literally blew up social media with a series of decidedly over the top contents. Then the explanation: “Someone entered my profile”

A Sunday to forget for Bruno Fernandes. As if Manchester United’s elimination from the FA Cup at the hands of Brighton wasn’t enough, the Red Devils captain also ended up in the crosshairs of a hacker, who took possession of his account on X with 4.5 million followers, publishing a series of posts bordering on political correctness. It was already clear late in the evening that something wasn’t going right, when the Red Devils captain announced: “I’m thrilled to be joining Macclesfield Town”. It’s a shame that the club plays in the sixth division and, net of the sensational victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, can hardly afford the Portuguese’s salary of almost 16 million pounds.

between hard videos and insults

But the alleged transfer market ‘bomb’ was only the beginning. The hacker has in fact posted a series of hardcore videos, as well as insults aimed at the footballer Alisha Lehmann and the British YouTuber Ksi. However, the most viewed post was the one aimed at the ownership of Manchester United, already in the sights of fans for the disappointing results of recent years. “Let’s get rid of Ineos” is the message addressed to the group headed by Jim Ratcliffe, minority shareholder of the club. Who, in turn, immediately hastened to communicate: “Bruno Fernandes’ X account has been hacked. We ask fans not to interact with any of the posts or direct messages.” A message ironically shared by the same hacker also on the captain’s page, complete with the warning: “Beware of cyber attacks”. Then the series of posts started again: first the alleged Fernandes announced the call-up by the English national cricket team, then he posted a photo of the scoreboard of that Liverpool-Manchester United 7-0 in 2023 which still makes Red Devils fans cry. Then the Portuguese managed to regain possession of his account, deleting all the posts. Good news, but it may not be enough to restore peace to Old Trafford.
