The left winger was the worst among the Rossoneri in Florence: technical errors and wrong choices confirm the hierarchy that sees Bartesaghi as the starter
Not Nkunku’s goal. Not Pulisic’s mistakes. Not Modric remained on the bench. The number one topic in the Milan fans’ discussions at the end of the match was Pervis Estupinan’s performance and the average comment was “it’s a disaster”, only said in a less elegant way. Too? On the one hand, the fans have no half measures, on the other the Milan full-back seems like a man in an identity crisis. He makes simple mistakes – in the first half, under construction, he freed Gudmundsson to shoot – and gives the impression of being confused. Technical errors, wrong choices, overestimation of the danger as in the action in which he spent a yellow card to stop Kean, who was restarting but was still up to the midfield line.
cheerful on estupinan: absolution

At the end of the match Allegri responded like a good family man: “The Estupinan match? It’s normal that when you play and then you’re out…”. In other words: without continuity, it’s hard. And again: “Today he did some good things, some less good. Like everyone.” The number 2, however, was Milan’s worst and confirmed his reserve status. Bartesaghi didn’t play his best game but, even so, he consolidated his starting position. He will play on Thursday evening in Como, against Kuhn or Vojvoda.
Emerson Royal and Theo Hernandez
—
In this story, there are a couple of precedents that hover over Milanello because Milan have experienced tense stories with their full-backs in recent years. Tranquility, little. Theo Hernandez went from AC Milan’s vice-captain and star to unwanted locker room disturber last season. Al Hilal got everyone to agree but today some people miss the old Theo… where “old” is not to be understood in a personal sense but in a historical sense: the Theo that AC Milan fans miss is the one from the three-year period 2019-2022, certainly not the last. The great precedent, however, is Emerson Royal, who a year ago experienced a parable similar to that of Estupinan and broke with the fans: for them, he wasn’t from Milan; for him, they were too hard on him. They were probably both right. Further back in time, in the post-scudetto period, Sergiño Dest, who arrived from Barcelona but was never able to lend a hand, was impressed. The best, in the end, were two guys: Jimenez and Bartesaghi.
estupinan and the future

And now, what do we do with Estupinan? The risk is that number 2 lives for months as a reserve waiting for a transfer. Allegri is right when he says that this team needs everyone, but Milan cannot afford to have a full-back in such difficulty. Estupinan, yes, he still has time. He experienced the Premier League and the La Liga, he played important matches with Ecuador: in his past, there are the answers. The problem is finding them.
