It was icy quiet in Velsen-Zuid for large parts of the match. In advance, a difficult task was expected for the Amsterdam team against neighbor Telstar. In the first half, however, coach Fred Grim’s team had all the control: “We started the match well and were very good on the ball. We failed to score more.”
Oscar Gloukh and Mika Godts provided the Amsterdam production for the tea. After the red card of newcomer at Telstar Cedric Hatenboer and the 0-3 of Youri Baas, the matter seemed to be settled. But two goals from the hosts left Ajax reeling: ”We have to work on this. You have to kill a match like that.”
Compliments to the opponent
The winning coach complimented the opponent from Velsen-Zuid: “They are doing very well with ten men and gave extra gas,” said the coach, who felt that his team did not handle the eleven against ten situation well: “We went along with the chaos a bit. We are not yet at the point where we can continue to play from within the organization.”
