Businessman Toivo “Topi” Sukari, 71, says Ilta-Sanom in an interview about his daily life on the Spanish Sunshine Coast.
Sukari lives with his wife Nadja Sukari, 54, in a luxury apartment worth around one and a half million euros. The couple lives in Spain, although Topi doesn’t speak a word of English.
– I think I will learn Swedish, but not English. I feel ashamed when others are speaking English and I’m sitting on the couch. I am stuck and dumb here and it limits my life. The language just doesn’t stick, Sukari tells Ilta-Sanom.
Sukari tells Ilta-Sanom that the days on the Aurinkoranniko are similar to those of many other Finnish retirees. They include, for example, long walks, unhurried breakfasts and just being at home.
– We have only eaten out once on this trip. We have already seen the expenses of Aurinkoranniko and how the place has changed. In the past, the quality here was much better, but now everything is compromised. It seems that the economy has an effect here as well, he says.
Sukari recently experienced a flight of terror after coming from Spain to Finland on Independence Day. The couple had to go to the hospital straight from the flight because Nadja got food poisoning.
– There was really no way to help with that. I then just tried to grit my teeth and stay calm. It was the heaviest flight of my life. I was terrified. Nadja didn’t have a normal stomachache, but also vomited, Topi told Iltalehte in December.
At the airport, Topi immediately called the emergency center, from which they were instructed to drive quickly to the nearest emergency room.
– I waited in the car for probably two hours while Nadja was examined, examined and examined. There was no explanation for the pains, so you know what food poisoning it was. Can someone get food poisoning like that? I’ve never seen it, Topi thought.
– In the end, he was only given a strong painkiller, and the pain slowly began to ease.
