Former national ice hockey coach Marco Sturm celebrated his biggest win of the season so far with the Boston Bruins in the NHL.
The Massachusetts franchise defeated the New York Rangers 10-2 on Saturday and remains within striking distance of the play-off places in the Eastern Conference after its fourth win from the last five games.
After an early deficit caused by Mika Zibanejad (2nd), Boston turned things around in front of their home crowd. Marat Chusnutdinow (3rd/27th), Pavel Zacha (8th/20th/32nd), Fraser Minten (22nd) and Charlie McAvoy (36th) made things clear after two thirds with seven goals. In the final section, Chusnutdinow (44th/59th) and Minten (52nd) added further. JT Miller (34th) was temporarily cosmetic for the Rangers.
Boston celebrated its 24th success in its 45th game. Sturm’s team, who has been behind the boards for the six-time Stanley Cup winners since this season and for the first time as head coach in the NHL, still has every chance in the fight for the wild card places.
