It had been many years since the East had been seen this full. Hotels full since the last days of December, restaurants with waiting listsfull routes and flights and a constant influx of visitors that confirms more than just a good start: the season is effectively exploited. Punta del Este and its surroundings once again concentrated volume and rhythm.

In that scenario, Gastronomy was consolidated as one of the central axes of the season. Restaurants and inns function as meeting points and the map expands with openings and projects that seek identity before spectacle. There are kitchens attentive to the product, well-executed proposals and a scene that moves naturally between the informal and the careful. Below, a panoramic view of the new gourmet route in Esteña that promises to hit the ground running in 2026.

The peninsula resurfaces

For years, the Punta del Este peninsula was relegated. The center seemed to lose weight compared to other areas. But this summer shows another side: there is circulation throughout the day, tables occupied from noon and projects that once again look at La Punta with interest. It is the case of Palm Boulevardwhich works as a clear signal of change.

Punta del Este

The brand new restaurant occupies a classic mansion that was closed for a long time and that today regains prominence without falling into nostalgia. The reopening involved a strong investment and a concrete decision to bring life back to the historic center with a large space with patios and lounges designed for different times of the day. Behind the project is Marcelo Betancourt, with a long history in the Eastern gastronomic scene. The menu accompanies this idea of resurgence with a recognizable and well-executed cuisine, with the focus on the product, Uruguayan meats, fresh fish and a logic of balance rather than exhibition.

The Bar

The route continues naturally towards La Barrawhere the season adds a profile more linked to the idea of hospitality and permanence. In a large property, surrounded by greenery and far from the immediate noise of the road, appears Locanda, the first visible chapter of an ambitious project that puts Punta del Este back on the international luxury radar. This is the prelude to the development that the Cipriani Group is carrying out in Uruguay, noticeable in the scale and care of the design.

The cuisine of this proposal accompanies this logic with a classic Italian imprint, well-treated product and precise technique, without grandiloquent gestures. At the same time, the lobby and the open areas of the space generate a fluid relationship with the environment that allows an extended time experience, the kind that begins at the table and continues in the after-dinner conversation and the landscape.

In this season too the paradores once again set the pace of summer early. Casablanca, in La Barra, is located facing the sea on one of the largest beaches in the area and it concentrates movement from midday, with occupied tables, lounge chairs in use and a dynamic that does not depend on the schedule but on the weather and the people.

Gastronomy accompanies this idea with a flexible menu. There are dishes with an international imprint, Italian nods and well-crafted regional products, designed for long lunches, more informal meals or something to share as the afternoon falls. The service works continuously, with an integrated table, bar and beach, which allows you to go from one plan to another without moving too much or changing scenery. At the same time, the parador adds an agenda of special dates that define its profile. During the first days of January it offers daily sunsets. International names such as Black Coffee and a constant rotation of guests and residents that keep the place energized late into the night.

And if what you are looking for is live music and a plan that combines nature with specific programming, Soto Bosque appears as one of the most active options in La Barra. A few minutes from the bridge and immersed in the forest (hence its name), the space offers tables among the trees, cooking over a fire and an outdoor setting that becomes the protagonist when evening falls. The experience works both for going to eat and staying to listen, with a relaxed atmosphere and a stopover that allows for nearby shows.

In January, the agenda intensifies. During the first 15 days there are concerts almost every night, with jazz in the forest, band performances in an intimate format and specific dates with greater attendance such as the Bahiano show and the Luz Gaggi show. The program is completed with outdoor film series and events also designed for families, who coexist with the music without breaking the general atmosphere.

The Bar

On route 10

Before fully entering José Ignacio, the circuit makes a stop in La Juanita, that previous section where the coast begins to drop slightly. It just opened its doors there. Alcanfor de Playa, the maritime version of Julián Galende’s Buenos Aires restaurant. The project maintains the spirit that made it known in Buenos Aires: a vegetal perspective, comprehensive use of ingredients and a direct relationship with nearby producers. During the day it works as a place to eat something simple after the beach, with light dishes and a cafeteria; in the afternoon and evening, it gains depth. This way it works as a perfect prelude to the rhythm of José Ignacio, where the proposals work on time, environment and experience.

In that framework it appears Bliss, the Posada Ayana restaurant, which opened this summer and quickly became part of the circuit. The proposal is led by the MAKA Vienna team and is based on contemporary cuisine focused on local products, with Japanese influences and precise attention to fire and the sea. The dishes are designed to be shared and accompany a stay that usually begins with a drink at sunset to continue with dinner. The interior, with a bohemian aesthetic that refers to the 60s and 70s, coexists with pieces of art and the proximity of the Skyspace Ta Khut by James Turrell, part of Ayana’s universe.

A few meters further, Pulenta Estate closes the tour with another way to find yourself facing the sea. In collaboration with Porsche, the winery installed a space with a minimalist aesthetic where wine and automotive design dialogue. The invitation brings together a cellar with Pulenta’s high-end range and a curated selection of Porsche models on display, designed as a meeting point for those who enjoy both passions. Throughout the season, private tastings, breakfasts, test drives and intimate dinners will be organized.

From the peninsula to José Ignacio, the 2026 season has just begun, but it has already made something clear: eating and drinking well is an essential part of this summer.
